Watch The 2020 PHorum Video

In the spirit of being respectfully cautious amid the spread of COVID-19 we transformed our 7th Annual PHorum (originally scheduled to be on March 12 at the Lobero Theatre) from a physical gathering to a virtual gathering that can be shared. Thank you for joining us virtually at our 7th Annual PHorum. Dr. Chris Kerr will share his newest research on end-of-life experiences, and then Dr. Michael Kearney will discuss with Dr. Kerr how these phenomenal experiences impact the bereaved, the loved ones who remain.

PHorum Workshop: Palliative Care In The Home

The talk will review the models design, financial sustainability and its relationship to Hospice in terms of both mission and margin. It will also include a discussion of two studies conducted at Hospice Buffalo: 1) Cost Savings and Enhanced Hospice Enrollment with a Home-Based Palliative Care Program Implemented as a Hospice-Private Payer Partnership, and 2) the Clinical Impact of a Home-Based Palliative Care Program: A Hospice-Private Payer Partnership.

VNA Health takes 7th Annual PHorum Event Virtual
as COVID-19 is Declared a “Pandemic”

Event at Lobero Theatre Cancelled – Join and Watch PHorum Online

MARCH 11, 2020 – Today the World Health Organization declared the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) is officially a pandemic. As our communities face the challenge of the spread of COVID-19, we are proactively committing to help slow the spread of this virus by transforming tomorrow’s 7th Annual PHorum: Perspectives in Healthcare from a physical gathering to an online gathering.

“In the spirit of being respectfully cautious amid the spread of COVID-19, we will not be holding PHorum at the Lobero Theatre tomorrow night,” said Lynda Tanner, VNA Health President & CEO. “We realize that some people will be disappointed, so please know that we did not make this decision lightly.”

“We hope our community will join us for our first-ever online PHorum to watch and hear Dr. Chris Kerr share his newest research on end-of-life experiences. Afterwards, Dr. Michael Kearney will join Dr. Kerr for a discussion on how these experiences impact the bereaved, the loved ones who remain.”

The video link and more information will be available at www.vna.health/phorum2020 on Friday, March 13. Time TBA. Online event is FREE.

The Morning Phorum Workshop on “Palliative Care in the Home” is also going virtual and will be available on Friday, March 13.

“Since the onset of COVID-19, the VNA Health leadership team has been monitoring reports from the WHO, CDC and CDPH, and working with our local Public Health Department to plan and prepare for the potential spread of the virus in Santa Barbara County. Internally, VNA Health has implemented education, training and safety protocols, to ensure our clinicians and caregivers are aware and prepared to care for our patients and their families. Unlike our hospital and medical clinic partners, our ‘office’ or ‘exam room’ is the patient’s home,” said Tanner.

“As individuals, we can all be proactive about protecting ourselves from germs and viruses,” Tanner shared. “In nursing, we are trained to take ‘universal precautions’ as a key infection control strategy. If we all follow the 3 ‘C’s—Clean your hands, Cover your cough, and Contain your germs—we can help slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community.”
