In lieu of COVID-19 and the cancellation of a physical gathering, we invite our community to view our 2020 Virtual Mother's Day Luncheon free of charge and to join us to honor Sue Birch and remember Adelle "Chris" Dyer. We hope this experience will bring you meaning, joy, and an appreciation for the work of VNA Health to help our community LIVE WELL!

Throughout the years, VNA Health has shined our light with compassion, perseverance and hope. At this moment in history, we are doing that once again. Throughout the COVID-19 crisis, VNA Health has maintained care for all of our patients, and our brave caregivers are the ones tending to patients that are sent home from the hospital to recover.

Your support is more important than ever.

Thank you!

Sue Birch
Our Honored Mother

Although quiet and humble, Sue Birch is a force to be reckoned with. Her love for the community is only exceeded by her dedication to her husband and family. With a heart for education and a joy for music, Sue has served on the Boards of many community organizations including the Ridley-Tree Cancer Center, Laguna Blanca School, Opera Santa Barbara, and Mosher Foundation. To deepen their impact on supporting a healthy community, Sue and her husband, Ed were involved in creating the Mosher Center for Global Leadership at Westmont College, hoping to influence positive moral and ethical leadership locally and nationwide. Sue has had a varied and significant career in education, counseling and computer science, all while raising her two daughters. Sue is a warm, gentle, caring grandmother and is known as Nana to her four grandchildren.

Adelle “Chris” Dyer
Our Remembered Mother

Like Marian Watts, the founder of VNA Health 112 years ago, Chris was a vivacious and positive person, and nursing was her calling. She had a long and varied nursing career: Chris trained military paramedics, cared for movie stars at 20th Century Fox Studios, and even was an industrial nurse at an aircraft manufacturing company. She moved to the Santa Barbara area in the late 1950’s where she raised her son and daughter. Chris became the head nurse and supervisor of the Casa Dorinda Medical Center and Assisted Living Care, and spent many years caring for the people of the community. She was a constant and reassuring presence for people going through difficult times in their lives. Her children, four grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews adored her. She enthusiastically cared about each individual, and in turn she was beloved by all.
